Latest Updates from Our Project:

New art for Last Fleet!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Jan 29, 2020 at 11:17:49 PM

Hey everyone

There's 48 hours left to go on the campaign! Excite! But anyway. Meanwhile, I've been working away with my artists to get a head-start on delivering this project. I thought you'd like to see the results! The character avatars for Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces are shown at the bottom of this update.

By the way, there are still three portrait rewards left. For £150 ($200) you can have your own face (or a friend) in one of the game illustrations.

While I'm here, you also might be interested in a couple of twitter threads that I did:

  •  The first thread is a run-down of the playbooks, breaking down their moves and what they're all about.
  •  The second thread looks at some of the key mechanics in the game, including pressure, clocks, and some of the moves connected to intrigue.

Cheers

200% funded! New stretch goal.
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2020 at 09:38:10 PM

Hi everyone!

As of 2 minutes ago, we have reached £13,000, which is double the original target I set for Last Fleet. It's so great to see so many of you backing the game! Thank you.

Apart from creating a warm glow in my heart, this means we have unlocked Joanna Piancastelli's module Rank and Duty, which will explore obedience to - and defiance of - the military hierarchy.

It also means I'm announcing a new stretch goal. If we make it to £16,000, Misha Bushyager will write an exciting scenario about Corax avatars breaking free of the hive mind:

  • Misha Bushyager is a longtime gamer and designer working on making sure the next generation of geeks sees themselves represented. She's a panelist, writer, editor, proofreader, and sensitivity editor for tabletop RPGs and larps. She's one of the founders of New Agenda Publishing and a curator for More Seats at the Table. She worked on Orun, #Feminism, Fate of Cthulhu, Lovecraftesque, Dead Scare, Misspent Youth:Sell Out With Me, Masks:Unbound, and the as yet unpublished larp Nightingales. You can find her on Twitter as @bggameworks and her website http://blackgirlgameworks.com
  • What happens when you escape your worst nightmare only for those to whom you fled to try and send you back? A group of Corax hosts who broke their programming and deserted are now prisoners of the fleet. What happens to them now?

We have four days left to get Misha's scenario funded - let's make it happen!

Cheers

Last 4 days! Please share the campaign.
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2020 at 09:38:09 PM

Hey everyone

We are down to our last 4 days on the Last Fleet campaign. It's been an incredible ride, and we've already nearly doubled our funding goal. But the last few days on a campaign are always big, because so many people only pay attention at the last minute.

You can help make sure we get the most out of that last few days. You've already helped us get this far with your pledges - thank you. If you'd like to help even more, please share the campaignor one of the media links beneath this update with interested friends, wherever you hang out with gamers on the internet.

If you do, please take the time to say what about the game excites you - your personal enthusiasm will be much more compelling than anything I could say.

Thanks so much for your support!

Josh

Here's a list of media links you can share if you're so inclined.

Interviews, articles and Q&As

  • I wrote an article about the Scorpio playbook for Geek Native
  • I've also written about the pressure mechanics in detail for Indie Uncovered
  • Beau Sheldon interviewed me for Five Or So Questions on Thoughty
  • I was interviewed by The Lounge of the Misdirected Mark network. This was a wide-ranging interview covering a bunch of different games I've worked on.
  • I took part in a #randomworlds Q&A, which is a bit more focused on the Last Fleet setting, though true to the name it was a bit random at times!
  • I went on Plus 1 Fwd, one of my favourite RPG podcasts, which included some fun game design chat, discussion of Last Fleet and a mini Actual Play.
  • I did an interview on Plot Points podcast, which was a fun and varied interview covering my gaming background and general game design philosophy as well as Last Fleet.
  • I did a Q&A interview on Gnome Stew, which talks about some of the media and design influences on Last Fleet.
  • I talked with some cool SF authors on BAMF, about space fleet fiction.
  • Gamerati covered the campaign on their "the curators" podcast.

Actual Plays

  • The League Presents is doing a Last Fleet Actual Play series. The character gen session is here, and the first session of play is here. It's notable because I'm part of it, but not the GM - and we created a very fun world.
  • Party of One did a one on one AP, featuring unnerving and scary custom baddies!
  • I ran a short campaign on the Gauntlet, which you can watch on YouTube here.
  • By coincidence Dave Morrison simultaneously was running a similar campaign, also on the Gauntlet, which you can see here.
  • Bored Ghost did an AP of Last Fleet a ways back, as part of early playtesting. Things have moved on a bit but I'm including for completists. Part 1 here, part 2 here.

500 backers! And, some actual play links
over 4 years ago – Thu, Jan 23, 2020 at 09:27:01 PM

Hey everyone!

Last Fleet has been storming along the last week or so. We're now at 500 backers (*waves to new backers*) and within sight of funding Joanna Piancastelli to write Rank and Duty - less than £1000 to go.

Also, Last Fleet was on Party of One, which is a very cool one-on-one Actual Play podcast. I haven't had the chance to listen yet but they're generally excellent so do check it out.

The Party of One Actual Play joins a number of APs that are out there for you to sample:

  • I ran a short campaign on the Gauntlet, which you can watch on YouTube here.
  • By coincidence Dave Morrison simultaneously was running a similar campaign, also on the Gauntlet, which you can see here.
  • Bored Ghost did an AP of Last Fleet a ways back, as part of early playtesting. Things have moved on a bit but I'm including for completists. Part 1 here, part 2 here.

I'm looking forward to announcing the next stretch goal - hopefully won't be long!

Cheers

Busy week! A Last Fleet media roundup.
over 4 years ago – Sun, Jan 19, 2020 at 01:31:10 AM

Hey everyone

Behind the scenes I've been doing a bunch of interviews, Q&As and so forth to promote Last Fleet. If you want to get a bit more under the skin of why I wrote the game, some of the key mechanics, and what other design work I'm up to, you might want to check them out.

  • The League Presents released the character/world gen session of an Last Fleet Actual Play series. It's notable because I'm not the GM - and we created a very fun world.
  • I also forgot to previously mention an earlier panel spot on BAMF, where I talked with some cool SF authors about space fleet fiction.

We're cruising along at the slow but steady pace that's typical of mid-campaign, which is good. It does tend to be hard to keep people's attention at this stage of the campaign, so any social media shares (including of the above links) are very welcome - and thanks to all of you who's have been helping raise our profile!

Cheers
